Security applies to all of us.
"I urge each of us to be alert to anyone who might be in danger of being abused and to act promptly to protect them. The Savior will not tolerate abuse, and as His disciples, neither can we."

The updated building and security guidelines provided in the following document empower individuals to increase their awareness (See Cooper's Colors in "Mindset") and help protect others around them.
Home Defense
All families should teach their household to call 911 when there is an emergency and it is safe to do so. However, not every family wants their children to have access to a smart phone. "Burner Phones" are available for a low price and limit Internet accessibility. It's helpful to remember that even if a phone does not have a cellular plan, they are required by law to be able to make emergency calls to 911.
The good news is that the likelihood of a home invasion is relatively low, even better news is that there are some easy and basic things we can do to dramatically reduce those odds. The following videos are from a former Navy Seal and a former CIA operative, who is a Latter-day Saint.

Hardening
Simple and affordable steps can be taken to reinforce doors and windows which can protect from weather damage and deter break-ins.
Separation & Rendezvous Point
"Designate a safe place where you and your family can find each other after an emergency. It is also a good idea to pick an alternate place. Gathering places may change depending on the disaster or where you are when the disaster happens. For example, if you’re at school, you may not be able to come to the safe place near your home. Your gathering place should be somewhere where children can find a trusted adult. Each ward and stake should also have a gathering place for reuniting families."

Story: In 2014, my wife and I returned to Lativa, the country we met when we served as missionaries. One day while exploring the market, we stood not far from one another but a gate closed blocking my entrance into the store from inside the main building. We had to find each other by exiting different sides of the building. We hadn't brought phones that could swap sim cards, so we couldn't communicate. This was scary for her as almost immediately she had a run-in with a drunk man on the street. I quickly found my way to her as she avoided interacting with the man. I immediately devised and presented a way for us to communicate and rendezvous:
If separated, we could always find our way to a public internet access point. This would be our first step, once there, we could use Facebook messenger (or other instant messaging system or email) and describe vital pieces of information:
○ Safety/heath status
○ where we are located
○ what our needs are
○ mobility capability
○ where we are located
○ what our needs are
○ mobility capability
Example: "I'm safe.
sitting in an Internet cafe on "Tirgu Street" a block from where we were separated.
I'm Fine.
I can move to where you are."
